Dr Dixon is a well-known lecturer, historian and writer, who has published a number of academic books and articles. She has taught at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark; at Stanford University, USA, at the Australian National University and at the University of Queensland. She has also been invited to give keynote addresses at international academic conferences and conferences concerned with women's rights. She has given guest lectures at London University, Manchester University, Oxford University and Cambridge University in the UK; Yale, Princeton, UCLA, Berkeley, Vassar and the University of Texas in the US and at Goteborg, Stockholm and Uppsala universities in Sweden and the University of Paris in France. She has a great deal of experience in helping students and graduates write successful applications. She has also judged many scholarships as part of a committee and has herself been successful in winning highly competitive awards, including international awards. These include: Fulbright postdoctoral fellow, Stanford University, USA 1985 International Federation of University Women, 1985 awarded two fellowships by St John's College Cambridge University AND Corpus Christi College, 1990-1991
